Highlights from Our January 2025 CFDA Committees and Board Meeting

CFDA

The California Funeral Directors Association kicked off 2025 with a productive and collaborative quarterly meeting at the Embassy Suites in Sacramento, where CFDA's committees met to continue CFDA's work in advancing our mission to serve the funeral professional community. Here are the key highlights:

Advancing Member Engagement and Benefits: The Membership Committee focused on planning a member pop-up event scheduled for April 1, 2025 at American River College in the Sacramento area. This event will include a CFDA presentation, site tour, and networking opportunities. These pop-up events are part of CFDA's broader effort to meet our members where they are, in their communities, to showcase how our association is serving them. Registration for our first pop-up event will be announced soon, so be sure to check back and visit our upcoming events page.

Legislative Advocacy at the Forefront: CFDA's Legislative Committee discussed upcoming legislative priorities, including an EDRS improvement bill, which is currently being drafted and scheduled to introduce this legislative session. They committee also discussed initiatives such as advocating for first-responder designation for funeral professionals and reviewing case requirements for apprentice embalmers and how they may negatively impact rural and religious funeral homes.

Elevating Professional Development: The Professional Development Committee continues its commitment to excellence in training. They are developing CFDA training videos on topics such as pre-need vs. at-need, family communication during cremation arrangements, and more. These training videos will be available exclusively to members at no cost and will be published on our CFDA website later this Spring.

Convention Excitement Builds: Planning for CFDA's 2025 Annual Convention is well underway. The committee is working to enhance attendee engagement with creative ideas like a bingo game in the exhibit hall, minute-to-win-it games at the Sunday night Tech Interactive event, and cash prizes in the exhibit hall. Registration is open, so be sure to sign up today - whether you are an funeral professional looking to further your professional education or a service provider company looking to showcase your products and services, you won't want to miss it!

From legislative advancements to professional development and convention planning, our committees are working diligently to address member needs and industry challenges. Thank you to our dedicated volunteers and members for making this meeting a success. Together, we are shaping the future of funeral service in California.
