Please join us in wishing CFDA board member, Megan Comer, a very Happy Birthday! Megan is a third-generation funeral director and mortuary owner. She is the President and owner of Alhiser-Co
mer Mortuary in Escondido, California. It is the oldest operating business in Escondido, and the oldest family-owned funeral home operating in San Diego County, boasting 128 years of service! She also owns Lakepointe Cremation and Burial, as well as Lakepointe Crematorium in Riverside County.
If you had asked her years ago if she was going to follow in the family business, she would have said no. Though she loved and respected the profession, she was on a different path - achieving her BS in Organizational Leadership and Management, and working on her master’s degree in Counseling. It was during this time that her father fell ill and needed her to help run the family’s mortuary. Megan returned, got her funeral director’s license, and never looked back. The last 13 years have seen commendable growth and expansion, but not without its challenges. She had a car crash through their preparation room, a crematory fire, and sadly, the death of her father. Megan sees her journey through this profession as lessons in resilience. And all those college lessons in business and counseling had perfectly prepared her for the role she ended up stepping into.
In 2023, Megan was recognized as Funeral Director of the Year by the CFDA. In addition to this accolade, Selected Independent Funeral Homes awarded her NexGen Professional of the Year, and have elected her to serve on their Board of Directors. With a strong desire to help our industry thrive, she is especially focused on the importance of showing young women that they have a place in our profession, and in leadership. Megan is clearly leading by example, and we are fortunate to have her as one of our newly elected CFDA board members.
As a San Diego native, she and her young son often enjoy the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park, Sea World, and catching a musical with her season tickets to Broadway San Diego. All the world’s a stage, Megan - And you are a star performer! Happy Birthday!
